220 Queenstown Road, Wandsworth

Welcome to our community website for our proposals for 220 Queenstown Road, where we will be sharing our plans to restore and extend the building to improve the existing workspaces.

Planning application submitted

We would like to provide you with an update on the plans for 220 Queenstown Road.

Following consultation with residents, stakeholder groups and the Council, a planning application was submitted to Wandsworth Council in October 2021.

We consulted with key local stakeholders and sent letters to residents, where we invited feedback from the community. The project team has reviewed feedback and worked on incorporating the community's thoughts in the proposals.

Our Proposals

Our proposals will deliver the following:

  • The restoration and refurbishment of the building, which will celebrate its distinctive character and heritage features.
  • The removal of the unsightly 1980’s 4th floor and its replacement with a more sympathetic reconfiguration and a set back extension at 5th floor level.
  • The creation of a new connection between the two buildings to the front and rear to provide continuous and fully accessible workspaces.
  • An internal refurbishment that reflects the industrial character of the building.
  • Re-create the building as a focal point and gateway for the Battersea Design & Technology Quarter, which will include the provision of Light Industrial and Hub space as set out in the BD&TQ proposals.
  • An improved street-scape with new accessible entrance and reception space, with top class amenity space and facilities.
  • Key aspirations around sustainability, aiming to meet a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of 'Excellent', and other sustainable targets.
  • A highly sustainable development that includes a low operational carbon development, a focus on occupier health and comfort, and the principles of a circular economy.

The Site

A pair of five-storey Grade II Listed brick buildings are located on the site. The larger of the two buildings has office tenants on the ground and first floor levels.

The site is within walking distance of Queenstown Road station and sits within the Park Town Estate Conservation Area.

The building is located within the proposed Battersea Design and Tech Quarter, a creative and technology hub vision for high quality buildings and public realm that bring a modern and flexible workspace offer to the area. which Wandsworth Borough Council have appraised within their Economic Appraisal & Design Framework study.
