Former Northwood Police Station, Harrow
Welcome to our community website on our proposals to restore the building and create a new hub for the local community.
Planning Applications Submitted
We would like to provide you with an update on the plans for the Former Northwood Police Station.
Following consultation with residents, stakeholder groups and the Council, two planning applications have now been submitted to Hillingdon Council for Change of Use and Listed Building Consent.
We consulted with key stakeholders and neighbours where we invited feedback from the community. The project team has reviewed feedback and worked on incorporating the community's thoughts in the proposals.
The Site

The site is the former Metropolitan Police Station located on the corner of Maxwell Road and Murray Road. It is a Grade II Listed building currently vacant and in a state of disrepair.
Our Proposals
The charity, Iron Aid Foundation, has recently purchased the building. We want to bring the historic building back into use for the local community. Iron Aid Foundation, will be relocating from St John’s United Reformed Church to this building, only 400 metres away.
Part of our proposal is to sensitively restore the iconic Grade II Listed building to its former glory as a hub for the Northwood community.
We are keen to work with the relevant local authorities to ensure many of the listed features and artefacts are restored and remain in the area. There are no plans to extend the current building.
We have been looking for a new permanent home to offer more to the community. Many of our community live locally, and the site is virtually equidistant to our existing location, so we anticipate the same usage pattern.
It is estimated that the existing activities will simply transfer over to the new centre. Presently during prayer times up to circa 10-25 people use the existing facilities. Furthermore, activities take place during off-peak hour times.

Benefits
- Bringing a dilapidated building back into life for the use of the local community.
- Providing potential space for a food bank and the Scouts.
- Providing a place to the local police force to use as a pitstop within the heart of the town rather than out in Ruislip.
- All our current activities held at St John's United Reform Church will be transferred to the new community hub including: mother and toddler groups, fundraising quiz evenings, elderly coffee mornings and youth-focused activities, such as the Scouts.
- Retaining the integrity of the Grade II Listed building and the original features found on site.
- Proximity to the current Iron Aid Foundation existing location will mean no increase in traffic.
- Responsible management of the new centre will ensure no noise disruption during prayer times.
