The Collective, Battersea

As you may already be aware, we received planning permission from Wandsworth Council for our plans to deliver a Co-Living building in April this year (Link to planning application). As part of the delivery process, we are now bringing forward minor changes to our proposals as an amendment to the planning application.

Since receiving planning permission, we have been considering community feedback as part of the detailed design process. We recognised that some neighbours had reservations with the Short-Stay hotel accommodation. There was a perception that people living in these rooms may struggle to become an integral part of the local community. The minor changes we are proposing respond directly to this and in summary include:

  • A reduction in Short-Stay hotel rooms from 81 to 31, with shared living Long-Stay rooms replacing these
  • An additional seven shared living Long-Stay rooms achieved through internal design efficiencies
  • No increase in massing, height or building envelope, compared to the approved building
  • No alterations to the external design of the building
  • Internal enhancements to the entrance area and café in the publicly accessible ground-floor 'community hub'
  • No changes to the delivery and servicing plan
  • Improved amenity and communal areas for the building's residents
  • Increased internal cycle parking provision

Community partnerships

We will deliver a new ‘community hub’ at the ground floor. The ground floor will be made available to the neighbours as a managed public realm offer.

To make this space a success, we have met with local organisations, businesses and neighbours to find out their needs and priorities as part of our Community Investment Programme (CIP) to inform the uses and events programme available to the local community.

We want to use some of the space to deliver a vibrant new public café for future residents and local people. The new café will act as a central point for activities in the day, providing opportunities for work and play.

What is Co-Living?

Co-Living is a new way to rent in London, combining private en-suite units with shared spaces including a gym, library and cinema, and a programme of events, all included in one monthly bill.

Our mission is to connect and bring people together to create inspiring, diverse and inclusive communities and offer publicly accessible facilities which respond to local needs.

Who is the Collective?

The Collective is an award-winning socially conscious Co-Living developer and operator of homes, workspace and cultural destinations globally.

We create better places for people to live, work and play. Our homes and workspaces are designed to inspire and bring people together, unlocking a new lifestyle for the curious and ambitious people from all walks of life. We are fiercely passionate about creating happy, inspired communities who think and live big.
